Censorship Sucks
Hi there. Unless someone thought this was so well written that they printed it out and handed it to you, you are currently using the internet. Yep, it doesn’t matter if you are reading this on your phone, iPad, computer or TV and it doesn’t matter if you are reading it on Tumblr, Facebook, Google Reader or Instapaper… you are using the internet. That might seem obvious, but you...

Highrise/Mailchimp Integration
Considering that both Highrise and Mailchimp are freakin awesome independent of one another, it didn’t come as much surprise that they offer the ability to interface between each-other. After Andrew sat down with them both yesterday to talk about how to play nicely together and share information, today is our first day of getting to use both together.  Integration across platforms is always...

Alumni Spaces Spreading!
Very excited about the prospect of new developments for our Alumni Spaces project! Slowly our team is working it’s way through Alumni Chapter listings for Big 12 schools across the country, getting in touch with the local leadership and letting them know about what Alumni Spaces can offer them. Nothing more exciting than moving from thinking, planning and developing…to enacting!

End O' The Line for Meta Keywords
It isn’t often that we say we just aren’t going to do something anymore because we don’t feel like it.  But it does happen from time to time. Case in point: Meta Keywords. The header meta tag for keywords was something that became important in the mid-90s as every search engine focused on expanding their index of site data, but it took exactly 5 minutes for people to start...

Mizzou on Apple.com! →
We are super proud of our alma mater, the University of Missouri, for being featured as a profile in education by Apple.  When we were there, the culture of going after new technologies was just starting to really permeate and it is really exciting to see that grow.

Allan Grinshtein: The Importance of Small,... →
I’ve built more things for the web than I can remember (luckily, no one else can either). If your goal is to one day launch something of your own, small go-nowhere projects are the best way to cut your teeth. A few notes on the lessons you’ll learn. 1. Learning to launch/quit/fire Especially if…

Quick Customization for Subscribe Remind Plugin
I love the Wordpress plugin Subscribe Remind- it is one of the few plugins I install by default with each new site I set up.  This plugin does a relatively small task but does it effectively in a way that you simply activate it and then never touch it again. All it does is add a small snippet of text to the end of each post on your WordPress blog linking the reader to your RSS feed.  By default,...

7 Deadly Web Design Sins  →
I was quoted in this article on Inc.com about bad ideas in web design- sharing the page with some really great studios and designers! 3. The unwelcoming welcome screen. “I hate everything about welcome screens. By clicking a link, I’ve already said that I want to go to visit your site, so there is no need to show me a ‘welcome’ screen with a quote. In fact, it is...

We are excited to announce today’s site launch for Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser. Over the past few months we’ve been working closely with the campaign staff to build a site that offers visitors a cross-section of information about Funkhouser and his positions as well as feature the campaign’s multi-media content and what Kansas Citians have to say about his fight for working class people...

WatchWatch
Wordpress has released version 3.0- a very substantial upgrade from the previous version, offering dozens of great new features.  We are pretty excited about it because we use Wordpress as our primary CMS- we’ve found that it is one of the easiest systems to learn and that clients love having control over their on-site content.  Definitely looking forward to upgrading all our existing sites...

Unpacking!
After two weeks I’ve finally completed the move to our new dedicated server.  Most of it was done awhile ago, but a few housekeeping items have kept us from fully flipping the switch… but now we are 100% live on the new infrastructure and are seeing major improvements in site load times.  Big thanks to the great support team over at MediaTemple- we had a couple of questions along the...

Upgrades, Migrations and Updates
Today, we are starting the process of migrating from MediaTemple’s grid-service hosting to a full dedicated virtual environment.  This doesnt mean much to the general public, but for us its a very exciting upgrade in our hosting abilities. We will now be able to serve more sites faster than ever before and allow for our clients to have their own access to manage settings for their sites rather if...
